What vaccines do adults actually need?
Most adults are behind on at least one recommended vaccine. Here's the simplified CDC adult schedule.
Every year
Flu shot. Recommended for everyone 6 months and older. High-dose version for 65+.
Every 10 years
Tdap or Td booster (tetanus + diphtheria, with whooping cough every other cycle).
At 50+
Shingles vaccine (Shingrix) — two doses, 2–6 months apart. Highly effective. Recommended even if you've had shingles or got Zostavax.
At 60+ (or pregnant)
RSV vaccine — single dose. Recently approved, strongly recommended for older adults.
At 65+
Pneumococcal vaccines (PCV20 or PCV15 + PPSV23) — once. Reduces risk of severe pneumonia and bloodstream infections.
Other risk-based
Hepatitis B (anyone, especially diabetes or healthcare workers), HPV (through age 45), MMR & varicella (if not vaccinated as a child), travel vaccines as needed.
